Animal Welfare Association

Camden County, NJ

Animal Welfare Association was operating out of an old, undersized collection of buildings and sheds that could not fully support their mission of sheltering needy pets and community outreach. Working closely with the executive director, MAI helped give form to AWA’s vision for a new shelter that would double as their adoption space and expand their many public program offerings.

A bright and welcoming lobby gives the shelter a generous multi-purpose space. Multiple adoption rooms are thoughtfully designed to reduce animal stress with daylighting, noise reducing panels and easy aces to outdoor play yards and dog walk paths. Meet and greet rooms give potential adopters a quiet space to get aquainted. Separate behavior and intake rooms allow for acclimation and training away from adoption activities, supported by veterinary exam and quarantine wards.
