Cobbs Creek
Cobbs Creek
Philadelphia, PA
Cobbs Creek Golf Course is a storied but long neglected public course owned by the City of Philadelphia. The course, which opened in 1916, is one of two locally attributed to renowned golf course architect Hugh Wilson, and was famed not only for the celebrities like Arnold Palmer, Ty Cobb and Joe Louis that played there, but the fact that players of all race were welcomed.
A small group of golf and history buffs had a vision to bring back the course to its former glory, and the Cobbs Creek Golf Foundation approached MAI to help them develop a master plan to renovate, flood-proof and restore the Cobbs Creek Golf course into a premier public course, similar to Bethpage Black or Harding Park. Working in conjunction with Hanse Golf Course Design, MAI developed the golf course master plan and preliminary designs for a new clubhouse and related golf course facilities.
