Norwood – Fontbonne Academy

Norwood – Fontbonne Academy

Philadelphia, PA

A private, independent school for three-year olds through eight graders, the Norwood-Fontbonne Academy campus is made up of an upper and lower campus, located within a quarter mile of each other. NFA needed a master plan to develop the facilities to reduce the need for students to circulate between the two campuses.

Two projects were identified as top priorities to help meet this goa, which MAI designed for the campus:

  • An upper campus Classroom addition to the existing Sr. James Anthony Hall, providing classroom space, science labs, and administrative space
  • A multipurpose Gym/Dining facility on the lower campus for athletics, dining and school-wide gatherings

Upper Campus

To meet the school’s expanded classroom requirements for the upper campus, plans called for a two-story classroom addition. This addition included six classrooms, a science lab and administrative offices.

The Sister James Anthony Hall an almost 14,000 sf building that resides on the upper campus housed an multipurpose gym on the ground level and an open classroom on the top level.

Lower Campus

The Fontbonne Commons resides on the lower campus and is almost 8,000 sf. A one-story addition was built in a former service courtyard between Fontbonne and Assumption Halls. This addition was designed to offer multi-purpose space to accommodate lower school athletics, lunch and school wide gatherings.
