With a long tradition in their North Philadelphia locations, St. Joseph’s Preparatory School has earned a reputation as a leading college prep school, dedicated to educating young men from the city and surrounding areas. That tradition included a fifty-year-old academic building with old-style classrooms and an underutilized library. A makeover was needed to bring the space up to 21st century education standards.

MAI and the staff at the Prep developed plans to transform their library into a vibrant school learning commons, with areas for student collaboration, technology and maker spaces, guidance and learning support all integrated into a central two-stroy hub. Classrooms were upgraded to incorporate the latest technology while improving learning environment.

The Auditorium

 St Joseph’s Prep has a dynamic theater program, lead by an alum with plenty of local theater experience. The school theater was in of attention, so MAI worked hand in hand with the theater director to renovate their existing  auditorium into a dream performance space. The stage was modernized with a new automated curtain and fly system, new stage lighting, new flooring and permanent extension to allow for even larger productions. The house was also upgrqaded with new seating, lighting and an inclusive sound system which included ADA assistive devices.
